Book Publishing Trends
YOU Should Know
There are many Book
Publishing Trends that are cropping up in the industry
today. It’s always helpful to know what the majority of
people are doing and what direction the industry that
you’re in is going so that you can be sure to keep up and
move in the direction of what’s becoming
important.
There are official
book publishing trends, I’m sure, but there are a few
things that we have recognized to be trends in the
industry.
Most people are now
turning to self publishing as the book publishing
opportunity of choice. This Book Publishing Trend is
justified because of a few reasons.
Major traditional
book publishers only accept 10-30 book titles a year and
there’s only a handful of them, while there are over
70,000 books being published a year in the U.S. alone.
That creates quite a bit of spillage!
People are tired of
waiting and waiting just to be rejected by traditional
publishers so they are moving on. Also, people have found
out that landing a “major publishing deal” isn’t what
it’s cracked up to be.
Most people think
its smooth sailin’ once they sign that dotted line with a
major publisher, but they’ve found out that they have to
work just as hard as anybody else to turn a book into a
buck, so they might as well self publish and earn a
higher profit on their efforts!
More than ever
before, getting published is becoming a part of the
American dream. Everybody wants to publish a book these
days.
The Christian genre
and specifically how-to and inspirational type books are
the fastest growing segment in the entire book industry!
That’s great news for all Christian authors and
publishers. Thank God that Christian books is what I
do!
Authors need
education. Since most authors are now self publishing
their books, they now need, more than ever, author
education. This book publishing trend has other results
such as low sales.
Most publishers are
utilizing Print-on-Demand in their business model
(traditional and self publishers)
Most people are
looking for grassroots methods to market. Free publicity
has always been the very best method to sell books. More
people are becoming aware of this fact and are learning
how to implement the many tools of free publicity such as
radio, print, and TV interviews.
Book coaching is
becoming popular. This book publishing trend is one of
the results of more people using self publishing as their
publishing option of choice.
More publishers and
authors are looking to the internet for marketing
solutions rather than traditional book
signings.
There are many book
publishing trends that are cropping up and we should all
take note of them in order to fill the needs that arise
out of them.
