How to Write a Good
Book for Christians
Learning How to write a good book for Christians is important
to do for this audience. Christians are a great audience of
people to write for. One of the best selling books of all time
is a Christian book and the only fast growing segment in the
book publishing world is the Christian segment. So the rewards
in learning how to write a good book for Christians are not
just eternal and spiritual, but also present and earthly.
There is so much to be said about learning how to write a good
book for Christians because there is much to think about. Karen
and I are both Christians and we believe that Christian authors
must take very great care in writing a book that sells but not
one that leads people astray. You don’t want to be provocative
and controversial to the point where you err on the edge of
being incorrect but you don’t want to write a book everybody
has read at the same time.
I don’t believe that it is difficult for authors to learn how
to write a good book for Christians because most people who
want to do so have very good intentions and just need a little
coaching. Here are a few things to
consider.
·
Write
about a subject that people are interested in learning about.
You first need to decide what your purpose in writing your book
is. Do you want to reach a lot of people are do you just want
to reach a very select niche of people?
My father is a pastor and he wanted to write a book dealing
with the relationship between pastors and associate ministers,
since he has many associate ministers under his leadership.
He realized though, that he wouldn’t have much of an audience
so he might as well do a tape series on that and write his book
on something that he could reach a larger audience with.
Another pastor told me he wanted to write a book on the
necessity for water baptism.
He is a Baptist pastor and was writing a doctoral dissertation
and wanted to publish it. Well, this provides a broader
audience seeing that there are millions of Christians who can
identify with his book; but it’s still not a popular topic
compared with a good book on finding your purpose or living an
excellent Christian life.
·
Make sure
your doctrine is correct. Most Christians wanting to write a
book already understand this point anyway but I should still
mention it.
·
Don’t
press your denominational views and other minor details, focus
on solving greater Christian needs. That book on baptism can
either relate to a large audience of Christians that do believe
in baptism but may not be considered Baptists or it can relate
to only Baptists.
If this is your exact focus though, go for it because books on
all Christian niches need to be written; but if you’re trying
to sell a large number of books then you want to stick with the
majors not the minors.
·
Encourage
the readers in their walk with Christ. You can never go wrong
by relating whatever point you are making back to the cross of
Jesus Christ and our need to constantly develop our
relationship with Him. You can learn how to write a good book
for Christians by reading books by classic authors such as C.S.
Lewis.
